Bringing Life to a Nature-Inspired Soap Brand from the West Coast
In the Summer of 2021 I was able to connect with Salt + Clay founder, Jhaya Warmington. Jhaya is an artist and maker based in Marin County whose background in both permaculture and fine art have collided in her latest creative venture: Salt + Clay Soaps.
Jhaya came to me with a simple sketch and a vision for a beautiful minimalist logo for her eco-friendly soap brand. Her vision was to represent the awe-inspiring land around her, which supplies not only the inspiration for her beautiful soaps, but the ingredients, as well.
Discovery & Strategy
Building off the initial image provided by the client, I generated some ideas, drawing inspiration from the hills and sea surrounding Marin County.
Exploring
Color
Salt + Clay Soap
Inspired by the natural colors found in the soaps themselves, the initial palette is a joyful take on the very elements that go into each bar, from the cool Pacific Ocean waters to the sun-drenched clays and flowers of the surrounding land.
While the client loved the direction of the palette, they were curious what it might feel like to swap some colors and incorporate more greens and blues. The second more muted palette, brought some earthier tones, but still wasn’t quite the balance we needed.
Finalizing Color
Working from the base colors, we created an array of coordinating color families based on the initial palette. Because the brand has plans to expand to offer a wider array of products, we wanted to create a palette that could grow with the brand and the various packaging and marketing needs it may have.
